About the event
During this session, we will explore a range of critical topics that are particularly relevant to supporting individuals with learning disabilities and autistic people. The training is designed to deepen facilitators’ understanding and knowledge, empowering them with the skills and confidence needed to effectively deliver the Oliver McGowan training.
We will focus on the importance of inclusive communication, discussing practical techniques and strategies that promote clear and meaningful interactions. The session will also highlight key national initiatives such as STOMP (Stopping Over-Medication of People with a Learning Disability, Autism, or Both) and the Transforming Care programme, examining their significance in improving outcomes for those we support.
Behaviour support will be another core focus, where we will unpack the principles of positive behaviour support (PBS) and explore proactive approaches to managing and understanding behaviours. This includes recognising the underlying needs of individuals and fostering environments that promote wellbeing.
Additionally, we will provide an in-depth discussion of the Mental Capacity Act, shedding light on its legal and practical implications, and how it guides decision-making processes in the best interests of those with impaired capacity.
This comprehensive session aims to equip facilitators with the tools and insights needed to create more inclusive, respectful, and effective training environments.
